Welcome to our super exciting Survivor New Zealand Power Rankings! Each week former SurvivorNZ player Shannon Quinn and Survivor superfan Ryan Brink will go head to head ranking each players likelihood of being voted out in the next episode from safest to most in danger.

The Rulebook: To play this game and for those of you following along, we will be using the traditional Gordon Holmes Power Rankings system to determine the winner. The ranking of the person who is voted out of the next episode will determine the number of points the players will earn.

Note:We rank our players from who we believe is least likely to most likely to be sent home that episode. These are not ranking of who we believe is going to win.

Each week Shannon and Ryan will create separate power rankings. At the end of the season, the person with the most points will be rewarded with the title of  “Survivor New Zealand: Thailand Power Rankings Sole Survivor.” So here we go the very first Survivor New Zealand Power Rankings are here!

SHANNON:I am extremely excited to see what this group has to offer. On paper it seems like a lot of them are willing to make the big moves (they sounded a bit weaker in some interviews but I wonder whether they didn’t want to express many villainous thoughts in front of Avi!). Some of my predictions I really hope are incorrect because I’d love to see a few dark-horses make it far… I wouldn’t be surprised if my list is completely flipped come Sunday!

#1 Dave

Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Smart, athletic, willing to make moves… I like the sound of Dave and think he could go far if he aligns with the right people. He just needs to avoid being seen as too much of a threat (there’s enough of them to hide behind for awhile), and be careful not to play too heavy-handed. Subtlety is key.

#2 Eve

Eve_Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_57_40+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

There’s something about Eve… I think she has the makings of a nice triple threat player, could make it to the end by really earning it and without making too many enemies along the way. Wouldn’t be surprised to see her dominate individual immunities post-merge.

#3 Matt

Matt_Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_56_17+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

To me he’s almost too obvious of a F3 contender to actually make it to the final, but I’m going to aim high here. A rocket technician has got to be smart enough to make it to the merge, right??

#4 Franky

Franky_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_22+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

“Don’t be discouraged, Charlie Brown. You have nothing to lose. You’ll either be a hero, or a goat”.

#5 Dylan

Dylan_Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_57_31+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

I feel we could’ve made the best of friends before stabbing each other in the back. He’ll be coming in with a well thought out strategy and I think he’ll be able to make it deep (if his enemies don’t catch him first).

#6 Josh

Josh_Profile.png.2018-04-10T08_33_38+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

I think he’ll make for a clever player, but not as clever as others. Should hold his own in challenges without becoming top-dog and will probably get along pretty well with the tribe. But no one’s going to want to sit next to him at the end.

#7 Kaysha

Kaysha_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_36+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

I have high hopes for Kaysha. She seems good on paper, although it’s interesting that she’s going in already planning to be a double agent? It’s a very dangerous position to put yourself in (TRUST ME), but here’s hoping you can play it better than I ever could.

#8 JT

JT_Profile.png.2018-04-10T08_33_54+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Knows the game and his own strengths and weaknesses well enough to take him far in this game, I’d love to see him on the Jury. I can see him going all out to sneak into (and control) the strongest alliances, as long as they serve his purposes.

#9 Renee

Renee_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_42+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

I want to root for Renee… But I just can’t see another Avi-esque player taking it out this season, I think it’s going to be a very different game. I do think that her cross-fit abilities will get her to the merge potentially, but no further (unless the real estate agent REALLY comes out to play! Please…)

#10 Arun

Arun_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_01+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Clever move not gunning for that leadership spot. I do think he’ll have to hope the tribes are neck and neck leading up to the merge otherwise I could see him being ousted early. Could make it past halfway, but I can’t see him making it to the end.

#11 Brad

Brad_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_07+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

I can’t see him being overly strategic, but I can see him stepping into a leadership role and taking his tribe through to the merge…. But once there I think he’ll be a dead man walking.

#12 Josefien

Josifien-Profile.png.2018-04-10T08_33_48+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Very personable and super keen! Has the potential to go far. But has mentioned a couple of times about having major surgery recently, I wonder whether it will hinder her ability in the challenges.

#13 Karla

Karla_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_29+12_00
PPhoto: www.scottmcaulay.com

Being a reporter should come in handy, and she seems like she’s out to play a strong game. However I don’t know if she’ll have the strategic chops to carry her far.

#14 Tess

Tess_DSC05684.png.2018-04-10T14_57_23+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Argh I’m so torn! I’d really like to see her go far but I also think she has a high probability of getting knocked out early by the players with more hunger for the game.

#15 Tara

Tara_Profile.png.2018-04-10T08_34_01+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

I don’t see much of a strategy coming from Tara, I can see her being overly helpful around camp (though there’s only so many ways to cook rice and beans)….. But she’s up against some powerhouse challenge beasts and some devious masterminds and I think she’ll be easy pickings.

#16 Liam

Liam_Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_57_15+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

I can’t tell all the hikers apart anymore… Liam seems like he’s athletic and there for a good time, but I can’t see him making a strong enough alliance to make the merge. An easy number to add, but an even easier one to drop.

#17 Lisa

Lisa_Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_56_10+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Please for the love of God let the first challenges involve puzzles, because I feel that Lisa will absolutely dominate; and if she can survive the first couple of tribal councils then I think she can go far. Unfortunately I think it may not be the case….

#18 Adam

Adam-Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_56_02+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

He seems like a very comfortable liar which would be great in this game (is the botox even real?? Or is he just blessed with a smooth brow?!) However, I think the villain card will be too obvious and he’ll be cut from the game early on. RIP spicy confessionals.

Ryan PicRYAN: I’m super interested to see what this years cast can produce. From a production level, Survivor New Zealand has taken a BIG step forwards in creating an authentic Survivor experience for the 18 players out in Thailand. My big question is can these 18 players put friendship and loyalty to the side in the big moments to further their own games? I think this cast has the players to advance the game forward. All these assumptions are based on the very limited information and bios we have. I hope if I have you low you prove me wrong. 🙂 Here are my not so hot takes.

#1 Josh

Josh_Profile.png.2018-04-10T08_33_38+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Top of the pops! Josh on paper is the closest player to Avi last season. As much as we posture about how gameplay will be different, the fundamentals will remain the same in my opinion. To win Survivor you need to be able to build personal relationships, have a good sensibility, show intelligence and not come across as overly threatening. I feel Josh ticks more of these boxes than anyone else.

#2 Renee

Renee_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_42+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Similar to Josh, I see Renee on paper as one of the more “normal” people heading out to Thailand. Lying about your profession. Check! Despite declaring she wants to play a more honest game I’m hoping that natural competitiveness will shine through and allow her to make the right game decision to further her game.

#3 Matt

Matt_Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_56_17+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Matt gives me similar vibes to Tom last season. Low key, fun and a positive energy. He should have no issue finding people to align with. Physically he looks capable and mentally being a Rocket Technician he should be able to excel at the mental aspect of this game. I think he could definitely fall under the radar of bigger personalities and make his way to the end.

#4 JT

JT_Profile.png.2018-04-10T08_33_54+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

JT’s pre-season press, videos and bio have been by far the most engaging of all 18 contestants. He is a personality and will be great TV. A genuine Superfan of Survivor he readily admits he has lived in a cocoon of comfort throughout his life, admitting that he is decidedly average. My fear is that he is playing up his inner John Cochran to the cameras and that may be annoying to those around him. He admits to not doing any physical training before the show, so my only hope is that unlike his prized Dyson vacuum he does not suck this season.

#5 Arun

Arun_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_01+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Last season we saw Sala as the fan favourite, a respected, well liked character who played with integrity throughout the game. Casting has found their Sala 2.0 in Arun. A dairy farmer from Hamilton, Arun is playing for his wife and kids and should have no issue fitting in well with his tribe. If he does not make the merge i’d be shocked!

#6 Karla

Karla_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_29+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Initially I did not expect to place Karla so high, but watching her videos she was engaging, interesting and had a determination to do well that some others were lacking. I actually think being one of the older players of this season will be an advantage to her. She seems super level headed, does not come across as having a self inflated ego like other and has a true motivation to do well as a single mother. Reporter by day, photographer by night, Survivor winner by July… maybe!

#7 Brad

Brad_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_07+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Potential merge boot warning. Brad did not excite me, but that is not to say he won’t do well. Brad is your typical cookie cutter guy put on every season of Survivor. We’ve seen a parade of Brads over the years. He will do well physically and should be able to make social connections, but he shouts “LEADER” in his bio and video. If he can keep his natural disposition to be heard and lead from the front in check he could be a real chance at winning the game. In one of his pregame videos he described eating meat pies before he left for the show to put on weight. As long as that has not made him a meat head he should be fine.

#8 Kaysha

Kaysha_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_36+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

I really liked Kaysha. I think she is really down to earth and knows this game really well. Out of the 2 wildcards, she was the more under the radar of the two and I think that helps her coming into the game. Being a social worker, she is use to working with all types of people, but more importantly, would be use to remaining calm in high pressure situations. A huge advantage. I love that she wants to be a double agent and if she can pull it off she could be a real underdog of the season.

#9 Eve

Eve_Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_57_40+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

At first glance with Eve I thought we were getting Brenda Lowe from Survivor: Nicaragua, but after watching her videos I fear we may end up with Brenda Lowe 2.0 from Survivor: Caramoan, a bit invisible! I hope that is not the case. She has all the skills to do really well in Survivor. She talks about having the physical skills to cope with the demands of Survivor, but Survivor is more than a 39 day camping trip with friends. You need to make decisions you’d typically not make in your regular life. She seems to know her strengths and weakness and have good social awareness. I’m excited to see how she will play.

#10 Dave

Dave_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_15+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Poor Dave, the only guy with his shirt off in the press photos! He would be a great guy to get a beer with, but strikes me as being super intense for Survivor. Clearly a high achiever in life, who succeeds at everything he does, unfortunately I don’t think that will be the case on Survivor. He comes across like an alpha, the big dog. I fear that once we move closer to the merge and his physical assets are no longer required he won’t be long for this game.

#11 Tess

Tess_DSC05684.png.2018-04-10T14_57_23+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

I really like Tess, but this is not Treasure Island. She seems to have a strong personality and that can be a double edged sword on Survivor. I don’t get the sense she knows anything about Survivor and I feel that will be detrimental to her long term chances in this game.

#12 Liam

Liam_Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_57_15+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Liam seems like a great dude and someone who would be great to hang with. But this is Survivor and he appears to be clueless about the game… Despite being 23, he comes across as super young for a game like Survivor. I think he is in way over his head. Fun in person does not always relate well on TV, when you are starving, sleep deprived and in the pressure cooker of the game, your personality and that fun sensibility is the first thing to disappear. I’m getting Carter Williams vibes from Survivor: Philippines. I think he should of stayed in the Shire with Frodo and Bilbo Baggins.

#13 Josefien

Josifien-Profile.png.2018-04-10T08_33_48+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Josefien wants to make her family proud and come across positively on the show. She talks about not having a strong strategic game. I think Jose would have been brilliant on season 1 of Survivor New Zealand. Season 2 however, I feel she is in big trouble. Being nice can only get you so far. I’m fearful as the advert already has her publicly declaring her struggles in the game.

#14 Dylan

Dylan_Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_57_31+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

What can I say about Dylan… His biggest strength is being a superfan of Survivor, yet his biggest weakness is being a superfan of Survivor. My fear is that he tries too hard to be a “good TV” character and does not play under the radar enough. He is very likeable and could do really well on the show. I do fear a lot of the Men in this season come across as more alpha in comparison so hopefully he aligns himself in a strong position early.

#15 Lisa

Lisa_Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_56_10+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

A Survivor superfan. Lisa knows Survivor probably better than anyone else on the show. She loves Survivor and is part of the online community. Hopefully not being consumed by 40-hours of podcasts a week like Dee. 🙂 I’m worried about her strategy, entering the game as a non threatening ally. It may come across as not connecting with her tribe. My core concern is she may be deemed as a weaker member of the tribe and seen as an easy boot early that does not ruffle feathers of other on her tribe. I sincerely hope Lisa can make the merge and live out her Survivor dream.  If she gets to the merge, she will be super dangerous.

#16 Tara

Tara_Profile.png.2018-04-10T08_34_01+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Tara seems like a lovely person and wants to do Survivor for herself. She has an understanding of the show and seems to be fit. My biggest question is whether she can fit in with the other 17 players in the game. I would not be shocked if she was an early boot or made Day 39.

#17 Adam

Adam-Profile.png.2018-04-10T14_56_02+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

I genuinely hope Adam can go far in this game, because he is incredibly humorous. From getting botox before heading out to help him lie to running a marathon without any training, Adam strikes me as a huge personality. Maybe too big for Survivor.

#18 Franky

Franky_Profile.png.2018-04-07T16_04_22+12_00
Photo: www.scottmcaulay.com

Franky appears to be a bubble and cheerful person. I’ve flipped her rankings throughout from top 3 to first out, but decided to probably wrongfully go with my gut and put her last for this reason. Franky was the most public wildcard. I just don’t think you can undersell how vital that pre-game information was for the intelligent players before heading to Thailand. If you were savvy enough, you could of actively watched her preparation for the game via Instagram and investigated who she was as a person before arriving. I just don’t see it as a positive. Her lack of knowledge of the game is also a huge factor in why I think she will not do well this season. Sorry Franky. 🙁 I’m hoping i’m wrong.Check out my Survivor New Zealand Preview Podcast with Adam Rida
